Interviewer ( I )Midori Kamiya ( K )
Midori KamiyaI : Thank you for coming after lesson.
K: It’s OK. It’s my pleasure.
I : I hear that you are very experienced teacher. How long have you been teaching?
K: I’m not so veteran teacher. I’ve been teaching for about 4 years.
I : Really? I think you’ve been teaching10 years or more. I’d like to know why you want to be a Japanese teacher?
K: My family used to accept foreign students as home stay through Lions Club every year. But I didn’t have the opportunity to touch Cross-cultural communication any more, because my father died. At that time, I participated in the volunteer classroom nearby, after that I started to go to school and took the lesson to become a Japanese teacher.
I : Which country person did your family accept as home stay ?
K: Taiwan, Finland, Sweden etc. My family accepted the people of various countries.
I : It seems very interesting to touch many different cultures. How was the lesson that you take to become a Japanese teacher?
K: The study was hard to continue, but stimulated me a lot.
I : How many students were there in class?
K: There were about 60 students. Almost all of them found a job after completion.
I : I think 60 students are too many. Did you also find a job immediately?
K: After completion, as I wanted to study practically, I continued to study in open course of Nanzan University, then taught at YMCA during 6 months.
I : How did you think lessons that you taught?
K: It was really tuff. Especially vocabulary control was difficult for me rather than teaching.
I : If teaching was so hard, didn’t you think about resignation immediately?
K: I chose the way to continue teaching to give satisfaction for all students who work hard, instead of chose resignation. There were a lot of things to learn through teaching.
I : How do you think of your job at ECC?
K: Students study hard and coworkers are friendly and helpful, so for me ECC is very nice place to work.
I : Is that so. You are trusted by students and always very energetic. Where does your power come out of?
K: I think I’m not so powerful. But I always want to watch the face that students understand and are satisfied with my class.
I : Your thought reaches the students, that’s why you get the trust from students. Please teach students with your power as it is now. Thank you very much.
